Chimney Cap Installation
Keep the opening covered. Let the chimney vent.
A cap covers the flue opening while allowing the chimney to exhaust. Depending on its design, it can help limit rain, debris and animal entry. The right choice must fit the actual chimney and must not obstruct its venting.
From the first assessment to your project plan
Typical planning starts with the termination configuration and measurements. The product must fit the flue or factory-built system, remain compatible with exhaust requirements and have a suitable attachment. Installation should preserve the outlet path; surrounding damage or wildlife activity may need resolution before a cap is fitted.
Know what belongs in your quote
- Chimney type, opening measurements and the existing termination.
- Cap material and design, compatibility and attachment requirements.
- Roof access, installation scope and whether damaged supporting parts need separate work.

Ask about this serviceIs the cap the same as the crown?
No. The crown is the masonry top surface; a cap is fitted above a flue or termination. A damaged crown is not automatically repaired by adding a cap.
Can any cap fit my chimney?
No. Shape, size, chimney type and venting requirements matter. The appropriate product and mounting are confirmed before installation.
Does a cap replace cleaning or inspection?
No. It does not remove deposits or establish the condition of the liner. Cleaning and inspection remain separate needs.
